Garage, two vehicles destroyed, three residents displaced in Merced house fire

A house fire damaged a garage, destroyed two vehicles and displaced three adults on Tuesday night in Merced, according to a fire official.

Reports of a structure fire in the 40 block of Aldrich Drive came in about 5:30 p.m. “When crews arrived on the scene there was heavy fire coming from the garage of a one-story residence,” said Merced Fire Battalion Chief Mickey Brunelli

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing and it’s too early to say what caused the fire, according to Brunelli.

The garage was destroyed and two vehicles inside were a total loss, Brunelli said. Other parts of the house sustained smoke damage.

“The fire was well established within the structure upon our arrival,” Brunelli said. “Given any delays in the response there is a high potential the fire could have spread to neighboring structures.”
