Driver and passenger killed, three others hurt in La Grange collision, CHP reports
Two people were killed and three others suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday in La Grange, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at 12:07 a.m. on La Grange Road north of Old La Grange Road, a CHP news release says.
The unidentified driver of a 2021 Kia was northbound at an undetermined speed. The female driver had a front-seat passenger, 50-year-old Thomas M. Rodriguez of Merced.
Approaching southbound on La Grange Road, Winton resident Gregorio Carvajal Favela, 60, was driving a 2017 Acura RDX with two passengers.
For unknown reasons, the Kia driver veered into the southbound lane. Carvajal Favela reported that he saw this happening but did not have time to take evasive action.
The two vehicles struck head-on.
The Kia driver and her passenger, Rodriguez, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Carvajal Favela suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
His two passengers, Winton residents Maria de Jesus Carvajal, 61, and Susana Pulido Olmos, 58, also suffered minor injuries and were taken to Doctors Medical Center.
