The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a woman killed in a two-vehicle collision south of Los Banos as 37-year-old Brenda Luna of Los Banos, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the collision near the intersection of Center Avenue and Almond Drive at 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 28.

Authorities determined a 45-year-old Los Banos man was traveling westbound in a 2007 GMC on Almond Drive when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection with Center Avenue.

The vehicle traveled into the intersection directly in front of Luna, who was driving a 2006 Honda northbound on Center Avenue. The CHP said the front of the Honda collided with the front left side of the GMC.

The driver of the GMC was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a hospital with major injuries.

Luna sustained fatal injures in the collision.

According to the CHP, neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the collision.
