One dead and four others hospitalized after fatal crash near Los Banos, CHP says
A two-car crash on Highway 152 near Los Banos resulted in one fatality and four other people taken to hospitals on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to a call of a collision on Highway 152 near Cozzi Avenue at 12:52 p.m.
A driver of a 2004 Toyota Sequoia rear-ended a 2012 Honda Accord while traveling westbound on Highway 152. The collision forced the Honda to crash into the center divide and the Toyota ended up off the side of the highway and into an empty irrigation ditch, according to CHP Sergeant Chris Smith.
One male passenger was ejected from the Toyota and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Smith.
There were seven people in the Toyota. Two other passengers suffered major injuries and were transported to a Modesto-area hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Los Banos Memorial Hospital.
Three other passengers from the Toyota left the scene.
The woman driving the Honda also suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
“Right now we’re looking into a possible medical emergency suffered by the driver of the Toyota,” Smith said.
Smith said officers don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.
