One person is dead following a mobile home fire early Sunday in Merced County, according to fire officials.

About 1:56 a.m., firefighters responded to the 4400 block of Lincoln Boulevard, south of Livingston, on a report of a possible structure fire, according to Cal Fire Merced County Battalion Chief Sean Bowe.

Bowe said firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the front of a single-wide mobile home. Due to the time of day and a vehicle in the driveway, firefighters assumed someone was inside, fire officials said.

Firefighters entered and found a man inside a bedroom. According to Bowe, the man was unresponsive when firefighters removed him from the home and Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The fire was well established throughout the structure, Bowe said, and about nine fire personnel responded including three engines, a water tender and a battalion chief.

Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputies also were on scene, according to Bowe. Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
