A Merced woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision on the west side of Merced, according to authorities.
At about 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision at the intersection of Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga.
Authorities said 22-year-old Ashlie Resendes of Fresno was driving a vehicle west on Ashby Road at an unknown speed when she attempted to make a right turn onto Cooper Avenue.
While attempting to make the turn, her vehicle collided with a 2019 Volkswagen driven by 85-year-old Heintz Guth of Merced. The Volkswagen was stopped at a stop sign on Cooper Avenue facing south toward Ashby Road.
Zuniga said the collision caused the Volkswagen to overturn. A 75-year-old woman who was located in the front passenger seat of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both Resendes and Guth suffered minor injuries in the collision and were transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Zuniga said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision which remains under investigation.
