Driver killed in crash with tree near Stevinson identified by Merced County coroner
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a driver killed in a solo-vehicle collision into a tree near Stevinson on Friday, as Carlos Brasil, 34, of Merced, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the collision just before 10 p.m. in the area of River and Blow roads. According to the CHP, Brasil was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry east on River Road just west of Blow Road at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway where the side of the vehicle impacted an oak tree, the CHP said. Brasil was pronounced dead a the scene.
