Three people displaced, dog killed in Merced fire that damages two-story home
At least three people were displaced and a dog was killed as Merced firefighters battled a house fire on Wednesday evening, according to authorities.
City of Merced firefighters responded to a call of a fire in the 400 block of El Portal Court in Merced at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, according to City of Merced Fire Chief Derek Parker.
The fire damage was limited to the garage, but there was also smoke damage to the two-story home.
“The crews did a good job of attacking the fire and running a hose line to the garage,” Parker said.
There were 14 fire personnel on scene battling the blaze. It took about an hour and half to get the flames under control as fire crews also had to work in triple-digit temperatures.
There were no people injured, but a dog died, according to Parker.
Parker said at least three people were displaced. They will be assisted by the Red Cross and family,
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
