Wildfire still impacting I-5 traffic over Grapevine. Here’s latest for holiday travel
RELATED: Where lanes are closed through the holiday weekend
Those traveling into, or out of, Southern California via Interstate 5 over the Grapevine were still being affected Friday morning by a fast-moving wildfire that started Wednesday night, though portions of the freeway are now fully open to traffic.
According to Caltrans, northbound I-5 is partially open just north of Lake Hughes Road. The two left lanes clear, while the two right lanes remain closed.
All southbound lanes are open from Templin Highway to Lake Hughes Road, the area that was being affected by the wildfire. Travelers can expect delays.
A list of up-to-date lane closures can be found at QuickMap.dot.ca.gov and Caltrans is posting updates on social media under the hashtag #routefire.
The fire started around noon Wednesday near Castaic (and Magic Mountain amusement park) in Los Angeles County. It fully halted traffic on Interstate 5 over the Grapevine on Wednesday evening.
By Friday morning the fire had grown to 5,208 acres burned, with 37% containment. All evacuation orders have been lifted.
