Golden Valley Health Centers begins construction of new building to house seniors program

Golden Valley Health Centers recently celebrated a groundbreaking for a new Central Valley PACE, Merced project, which will aid local senior citizens.

The ceremony was held at the original Golden Valley Health Centers clinic, which opened 50 years ago, located at 727 West Childs Ave. in Merced.

Golden Valley Health Centers introduced the Central Valley PACE program in Modesto last year.

“The day center, designed to care for qualified individuals 55 and older, allows participants to live safely at home while receiving personalized medical care, meals, activities and socialization during daytime hours,” according to a news release.

The PACE services include a full medical team of primary care physicians, nurses, dental and vision care providers, physical therapy and more.

The event was attended by Golden Valley Health Centers CEO Tony Weber and Chairman of the Board John Price and other local dignitaries.

“We have seen an enormous need for expanded PACE services locally since we opened the doors of our Modesto PACE operation last year,” said GVHC President and CEO Tony Weber.

“With more than 200 participants currently receiving care at PACE, we knew that opening an additional program in Merced County would be of great benefit to many residents living there.”

Golden Valley celebrated its 50 years of service in Merced County in January.

Golden Valley Health Centers started as Merced Family Health Centers in a one-exam room clinic on the south side of Merced.

Today there are 44 clinics that stretch across Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties. Merced Family Health Centers changed its name to Golden Valley Health Centers in 1990 as they continued to expand.

Golden Valley Health Centers now sees 175,000 patients.

The PACE program also provides in-home support services including showering, meal prep and meal delivery, housekeeping, medication management, and physical therapy. Transportation to and from medical appointments is also offered.

Construction work is scheduled to begin at Central Valley PACE, Merced this month and the program is expected to open in July of 2024.

“We are dedicated to serving seniors throughout our communities, and supporting their caregivers,” Weber said.
