Driver, passenger injured after vehicle crashes with school bus in Fresno County
A driver and passenger were taken to a hospital with major injuries after their vehicle collided with a school bus along Highway 33, just south of Mendota, according to California Highway Patrol.
At 2:37 p.m. officers responded to Highway 33 and Panoche Road for the two-vehicle collision involving a car and a school bus, according to a news release.
According to a CHP preliminary investigation, Juan Angulano, 53, of Firebaugh, was driving a 1999 Thomas School Bus south on Highway 33 at about 60 mph carrying 20 students and three staff members.
Meanwhile, Trever Bohner, 21, of Clovis, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta traveling west on Panoche Road, east of Highway 33 with a passenger.
The CHP said it’s unclear whether Bohner came to a complete stop at the intersection or if he failed to yield the right of way to the school bus.
According to the CHP, Angulano was unable to avoid a collision and the right front of the bus collided with the passenger side of the Volkswagen. Both Bohner and his passenger were flown to a Fresno hospital for treatment.
The CHP said multiple passengers aboard the bus sustained minor injuries and were taken to local medical facilities by their parents.
According to the CHP, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
