Sedan driver killed in Merced County head-on collision with pickup, CHP says
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a collision Thursday that killed a San Jose woman on Gurr Road in Merced County.
At about 10:39 a.m., officers responded to a head-on collision on South Gurr Road south of Shippee Road, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga.
According to Zuniga, a 22-year-old San Jose woman was driving a 2019 Toyota Corolla south on South Gurr Road, south of Shippee Road at an unknown speed.
At the same time, 24-year-old Carlos Reyes Gonzales of Winton was traveling northbound on South Gurr Road in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, according to authorities.
For unknown reasons the driver of the Toyota veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Silverado, according to Zuniga. According to the CHP, the woman was not wearing a seat belt. Medical personnel responded and attempted CPR but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gonzales reportedly suffered minor injuries in the collision and refused medical attention at the scene.
