Two girls struck and hurt by car in Atwater. Police trying to determine who’s at fault

Two girls were taken to Valley Children’s Hospital after they were struck by a car in Atwater on Wednesday night, police said.

At about 7 p.m., the girls were crossing First Street in the area of Fortuna Avenue when a southbound car hit them, according to Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador.

The two girls, who are both Atwater residents, were transported to Valley Children’s Hospital with minor to moderate non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said they are not releasing any additional information about the victims at this time.

Salvador said at this time it is unknown if the driver saw the pedestrians prior to the collision. Police also said it is unknown if the pedestrians were in a crosswalk. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating.

According to Salvador, the collision remains under investigation and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factor in the collision.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Atwater Police Department at 209-357-6396 and ask to speak with Sgt. Lee.
