Inmate, 31, dies at a Merced County jail. Here’s what authorities have said so far
A 31-year old inmate at the John Latorraca Correctional Center in Merced died on Thursday night, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Correctional staff found an unresponsive person in the facility at 9:50 p.m.
Staff and first responders attempted life-saving measures on the inmate, identified as Derek Valentine, but he was pronounced dead.
The sheriff’s Investigations Bureau is investigating this incident.
