Two killed in Highway 33 head-on collision near Dos Palos, CHP says

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that killed two people near Dos Palos on Thursday.

According to the CHP, at about 9:45 p.m., Los Banos area CHP officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 33 south of Christian Avenue. Authorities said a preliminary investigation shows that a 75-year-old woman was driving a 2015 Nissan south on Highway 33 at an unknown speed. The CHP said there were indications that the Nissan’s headlights may not have been activated.

At the same time, an 18-year-old man was driving a 2020 Honda traveling north on Highway 33 at an unknown speed south of Christian Avenue. Authorities said the Honda appeared to be traveling north in the southbound lane, possibly passing another vehicle.

The vehicles were involved in a head-on collision resulting in fatal injuries to both drivers. The woman was not wearing a seat belt a the time of the collision, according to authorities.

The CHP said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Los Banos area CHP office at 209-826-3811.
