Merced weather forecast calls for rain and a drop in temperature. When will showers start?

After months of hot, dry weather, the Merced area is expected to see some rain along with a big drop in temperatures, the National Weather Service said.
“A pattern change will take place early next week will shift winds to the northwest, drawing in cooler air from the north Pacific to central California,” the weather agency said on X, formerly called Twitter. “Afternoon highs next week are expected to be around 5 degrees cooler than average for this time of year.”
The weather is expected to get colder this weekend, the weather service said.

According to the weather service’s latest forecast, Merced was expected to see cloudy skies on Friday with a high temperature near 80 degrees and a low temperature around 48 degrees.
Light winds at about 5 mph were expected Friday evening.
On Saturday, the forecast shows mostly sunny skies with continuous winds around 5 mph. The high will be around 78 degrees and the low will be around 56 degrees.
Rain clouds will begin rolling in on Sunday night.
When will it rain in Merced?
There is a 20% to 30% chance of rain on Sunday with “very little accumulation,” aid Dan Harty a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Sunday will see a high near 77 and a low around 51. Winds will gust as high as 15 mph.
Skies will be mostly sunny on Monday with a 20% chance of rain. The high will near 68 degrees and the low will be around 47.
Tuesday’s high will be near 67. The low will be around 42.
On Wednesday, the forecast calls for a high near 67 and a low around 44.
Thursday will see “a slight chance of rain,” the weather agency said.

To prepare for rain, the weather agency said residents should:
Clear leaves from storm drains.
Clean out gutters.
Check windshield wipers.
Have an umbrella and rain gear ready.
Drive carefully on slick roads.
