Will it rain in the Merced area on Thanksgiving? That’s one of the questions on locals’ minds as Turkey Day approaches.
The week will start off with rain, according to the National Weather Service.
“Excessive rainfall” was expected on Monday and Tuesday in much of the San Joaquin Valley, the National Weather Service said in an X post
However, the risks of rapid onset flooding in and around Merced due to rainfall were “minor” according to the post.
However, skies will eventually clear, according to the weather service.

What’s the latest weather forecast for Merced?
After several days of rainy weather, Merced was expected to see more showers on Tuesday with an 80% chance of precipitation and winds around 5 mph according to the National Weather Service’s latest seven-day forecast.
The “heaviest rain” will fall from 9 to 10 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday, Mikal Montgomery. a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Merced Sun-Star.
“Then (the rain is) going to taper off a little bit and take up again slightly, around 4 p.m. on Tuesday,” Montgomery said.
The Merced area could see rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
Tuesday will be mostly foggy with a high temperature near 57 degrees and an overnight low temperature around 44 degrees.
On Wednesday, there will be patchy fog before 10 a.m.
The day will be mostly sunny with a high near 56 and a low around 38.
“After the storm moves out on Wednesday morning, we should have a pretty dry pattern,” Montgomery said.

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, will be mostly sunny in Merced with a high near 57 and a low around 40.
There’s a slight chance of rain between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday.
Friday will be partly sunny with a 20% chance of precipitation after 10 a.m. The high will be 57 and the overnight low will be around 40.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 59 and a low around 40.
Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 60.
How much rain has fallen in November so far?
According to the National Weather Service, the Merced area has experienced a wetter-than-average November.
For the time period of Nov. 25 through Nov. 30, Merced was about 80% to 110% over the monthly normal amount of precipitation, Montgomery said, although he did not give exact rainfall amounts.
“Last year was a bit drier,” Montgomery said.
