Rain is returning to Merced, along with warmer temperatures. How long will showers last?
After a wet week, more rain is headed to Merced, according to the National Weather Service
Three 10ths of an inch of rain fell in Merced on Thursday, Dec 12, weather service meteorologist Mikal Montgomery told The Fresno Bee.
According to the National Weather Service, another storm will sweep through the area rapidly this weekend, bringing showers and an increase in temperatures.
More than a 10th of an inch of precipitation could fall over a 24-hour period at “lower elevations in Central California,” the National Weather Service said in an X post.
“The northern portions and the foothills will favor the storm with some of the higher probabilities during the weekend and early next week,” the weather service said.
What’s in the weather forecast for Merced?
Fresno had a 30% chance of rain before 4 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service’s latest seven-day forecast
Friday was expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high temperature near 55 degrees and winds of 5 to 10 mph. Gusts could reach 15 mph.
On Friday night, the low temperature will drop to around 51 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
How much rainfall will Merced get?
On Saturday, there’s a 100% chance of precipitation with rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., the weather service said.
More rain will fall from 1 to 4 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m.
The high will remain steady around 55 with winds of 15 to 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are expected, the weather service said, with “higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”
There’s a 20% chance of rain on Saturday night, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m. and more sprinkles between 7 and 10 p.m.
The low will be around 39.
Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 53 and a low around 38.
““As far as amounts go, we are looking at around a 10th of an inch of rain to about 20th of an inch of rain for the weekend,” Montgomery said.
Are more showers coming to Merced?
Merced is expected to get more rain on Monday as another storm drops in.
“We may have another chance for some precipitation — not too much — on Monday morning into Monday afternoon. ” said Montgomery
Monday will have a a 40% chance of rain.
The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 56 and a low around 42.
How long will rain last?
After Monday, “It should be dry for quite some time.” said Montgomery
Tuesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 56 and an overnight low around 40.
Wednesday morning will be mostly sunny with a high near 59 and a low around 40.
Patchy fog returns Wednesday night and continues Thursday, which will be mostly sunny skies with a high near 61.
