Will Merced see clear skies on New Year’s Eve? Here’s the latest forecast
Before ringing in 2025 in Merced, you might want to check the weather forecast.
The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for the San Joaquin Valley that will remain in effect through 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30.
Visibility along the Highway 99 corridor from Merced to just north of Bakersfield as expected to drop to below a quarter-mile, the weather service said in an X post.

What’s the forecast for New Year’s Eve in Merced?
On New Year’s Eve — Tuesday, Dec. 31 — Merced is expected to have a high temperature near 51 degrees with areas of fog before 9 a.m. and winds around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service’s latest seven-day forecast.
Otherwise, New Year’s Eve will be mostly sunny, the weather agency said.
The overnight low temperature will be 36 degrees.
You can expect partly cloudy skies for your end-of-2024 celebration, the weather agency said, with patchy fog before midnight and after 1 a.m..
Will it be foggy on New Year’s Day in Merced?
Fog will roll into parts of the Merced area before 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, according to the weather service.
The first day of 2025 will be mostly sunny, with a high near 54 degrees and calm winds.
Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low of around 38and patchy fog after 9 p.m.
You might also see patchy fog after before 11 a.m. Thursday, which will have a high near 57 and an overnight low around 42.
Weather service meteorologist Dan Harty called fog “the No. 1 weather hazard in the Central Valley.”
“That’s definitely something people need to be aware of,” Harty said.
When will rain return Merced in 2025?
On Friday, there’s a 30% chance of rain in the Merced area, mainly after 4 p.m., the weather service said.
Friday will be mostly cloudly with a high near 60 and an overnight low around 43.
Expect patchy fog between 9 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday.
Heading into the weekend, Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 55 and winds of 5 to 10 mph. Gusts could go as high as 15 mph.
Saturday night will have a low around 41, as well as patchy fog and gradually calming winds.
Mostly sunny skies are predicted on Sunday, although Merced will see areas of fog. The high will be near 55.
