Authorities identify pedestrian struck and killed on highway on-ramp in Merced County

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a pedestrian struck and killed on a highway on-ramp in Merced County earlier this week as 36-year-old Francisco Armando Correa Guerreo.

Authorities said the collision occurred shortly after 8 p.m. ,Monday, on a northbound Highway 99 on-ramp in the City of Merced. A Merced woman driving a 2006 Ford Expedition was attempting to enter the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp from State Route 140, when the vehicle struck the man who was crossing the ramp, the CHP said.

Merced area CHP Officer Eric Zuniga said the man was wearing dark clothing and there appeared to be poor lighting in the area where the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. The CHP said the driver showed no signs of intoxication.
