Suspicious fire leads to discovery of burned body in Merced County home, deputies say

An investigation is underway after a suspicious fire broke out Monday killing one in Merced County.

Deputies said a tree fire started at 8:45 a.m. in the backyard of a vacant home in the 2300 block of Beachwood Drive.

Merced County Fire responded and put out the fire but discovered a burned body inside the home, deputies said. Merced County Fire arson investigators and the Merced County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the suspicious death.
