Person reported missing found dead in burning car in Merced County, deputies say

Deputies found a body in a vehicle engulfed in flames Saturday morning in Merced County.

Deputies responded to a report of a crash at 3:30 a.m. near the Campus Parkway on-ramp from Highway 140. They located a vehicle that had hit a fixed object and was on fire.

After the fire was extinguished, a dead person was found inside the vehicle.

The person associated with the vehicle had recently been reported missing, deputies said.

Deputies are working with investigators and the coroner to determine the person’s identity.

The incident is under investigation, deputies said.
