Wrong-way driver arrested on suspicion of DUI in collision in Merced County, CHP says

A driver is in Merced County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash early Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver traveled southbound in the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle near Mission Campus.

No major injuries were reported, CHP said, but the driver was arrested and booked in jail.

CHP sent out a stern warning about driving under the influence.

“All DUI crashes are preventable,” CHP wrote. “Driving impaired is a choice — one that puts lives in danger. It’s not worth the risk, the consequences, or the lives that could be lost. Don’t drink and drive. Ever.”
