Merced has a new Mexican restaurant. What’s on the menu at Casa Frida?
A new Mexican restaurant has opened in Merced featuring a name and decor that pays homage to famous painter Frida Kahlo.
Casa Frida, located in the Home Depot parking lot at 1715 Highway 140, is “bringing the rich flavors, colors, and traditions of Mexico to Merced,” it said in a Facebook post.
The owners of Casa Frida are Anabel García and her husband, Juan Carlos García, plus business partners Maria Lemus and Humberto Zavala.
On the menu, you’ll find traditional Mexican fare with a few surprises, including a large selection of seafood dishes and Mexican-style sushi.
Facebook page 209 Eats, which has more than 10,000 followers, visited Casa Frida during its soft opening Saturday. “It was really good,” 209 Eats said in a Facebook post.
According to the 209 Eats Facebook post, the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and is closed Tuesdays.

Another Mexican restaurant and bar opened in October in Atwater. Casa Victoria’s Bar & Grill opened at 2684 Shaffer Road.
