Merced-to-San Jose route is new on Gold Runner train-and-bus service

The Amtrak Gold Runner train and bus service has introduced a new route that will connect Merced and San Jose.

Route 40 is launching Jan. 5, Gold Runner announced in a Facebook post Monday. Stops will include Merced, Los Banos, Gilroy and San Jose, the post said.

The San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority, which works with Amtrak, changed the Central Valley service’s name to Gold Runner in November. Formerly, the Gold Runner was called the San Joaquins.

Gold Runner is the sixth-busiest rail service in the U.S., according to Amtrak, just behind the Capitol Corridor service between Auburn and San Jose.

Information on times, stops and tickets is available at goldrunner.com/route40.
