Flood protection and prevention are ongoing projects for Merced County, which announced Friday a project for “proactive creek bank maintenance.”

The county said it will reinforce parts of Bear Creek, in the McSwain area, and Miles Creek, in the Planada area.

“Crews from the California Conservation Corps were mobilized following a request from Merced County Public Works for remediation work in line with recommendations from the California Department of Water Resources.” wrote Mike North, public information officer for the County, “Based on the request, reinforcement work is being performed to strengthen previously repaired sections of the creek banks.”

Additionally, he wrote “There is … no imminent risk — this work is preventative in nature and part of routine efforts to maintain the integrity of the creeks.”

Residents can expect to see crews and work equipment in the area while work is underway and the county encourages using caution near active work zones.
