After more than 50 years of operation, Merced County no longer will manage Lake Yosemite Park.

In a statement made on Facebook on Friday morning, the county said its lease to operate the park, which is just north of UC Merced, will end Saturday.

Merced Irrigation District has decided to proceed with a new operator, the Facebook post said.

MID owns most of the parkland, but Merced County has operated the park “in order to provide this important public benefit.”

The county has operated the park at a “significant financial loss,” the post said.

Merced County has made significant investments to enhance the park “in an effort to keep the park affordable and accessible to all residents,” the post said.
