Beginning in July, Contour Airlines will provide flights from Merced Regional Airport to LAX and Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for at least the next four years. The agreement was secured through the federal Essential Air Service program that connects commercial airlines with small and rural communities for better commercial travel access.

“This is a major milestone for Merced and the future of our airport,” Mayor Matthew Serratto said in a press release. “Securing reliable commercial air service strengthens our local economy, supports business growth and improves connectivity for our residents.”

Airfare will be available for purchase beginning April 14. Before the launch, the city plans to make Transportation Security Administration tenant improvements, finalize airline lease agreements and ensure operational readiness for the new Merced Regional Airport terminal.

“Contour Airlines is honored to be selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation to serve the city of Merced,” Contour President Ben Munson said in the release. “We are confident our regional jet service, low fares and nonstop service to both Los Angeles and Las Vegas will materially expand air travel opportunities for the community.”

More details about the new agreement will be announced at an upcoming Merced City Council meeting, according to the release.
