Sacramento woman, 69, killed in solo-vehicle Merced County crash

A 69-year-old Sacramento woman died in a solo crash in Merced County on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Merced officers were called to the scene of a crash on northbound Highway 99 at about 5:09 p.m., the CHP said in a news release.

It happened near Le Grand Road, the news release said.

A CHP investigation found that the woman was driving in the No. 3 lane at an unknown speed.

The vehicle drifted into the right shoulder and onto the dirt embankment, where it struck the concrete base of the Le Grand Road overcrossing.

The Cadillac sustained major front-end damage, CHP said. The driver was unresponsive when officers arrived.

After emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

The crash remains under investigation. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor, CHP said.
