A fire at a Merced apartment complex Tuesday night displaced several people but caused no injuries, according to Merced Fire Chief Casey Wilson.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire on the 3000 block of Park Avenue just after 9:30 p.m., Wilson said.

The fire originated in an attic space on the second floor of the apartment complex. Eight units were affected by the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they were told that an elderly man was still inside one of the units, but after a search it was determined nobody was inside.

All Merced fire units, along with Merced County Fire units, responded to the fire. That included six fire engines, one squad vehicle, one ladder truck and three chief officers, Wilson said.

In all, 29 fire personnel were involved, and there were no injuries.

The Red Cross helped nine adults and two children who were displaced by the fire. Others who were affected found their own accommodations, Wilson said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. As of now, it’s believed the fire was unintentional.
