Two teenage drivers were involved in a crash that left several people injured on Highway 152 near the Romero Visitor Center near San Luis Reservoir on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 9:48 a.m., CHP officials in Merced received a call regarding the two-vehicle crash with ejections, according to a news release.

Officers from the Los Banos Area office responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated an 18-year-old male from Los Banos was driving a 1999 BMW coupe in the No. 1 westbound lane at an unknown speed.

A 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 19-year-old male and occupied by four passengers, was traveling in the No. 2 westbound lane at an unknown speed.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the BMW lost control of his vehicle. The BMW entered the center median, spun back into the westbound lanes, and collided with the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Tahoe then crashed into the center median guardrail, the news release said.

Three passengers in the Tahoe were ejected. They were not wearing seatbelts, CHP said.

Four occupants sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported by ambulance to Modesto hospitals.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in this crash, CHP said.
