Popular Merced Halloween house’s decorations destroyed by fire. How to help

A GoFundMe account is raising money to help a Merced couple known for their popular annual Halloween display at their Oregon Drive home after a fire destroyed many of their decorations earlier this month.

Harmony and Ken Anderson were profiled in the Sun-Star in 2022 for their spectacularly spooky display, which draws thousands of trick-or-treaters and passers-by every year.

The display in 2022 featured an army of life-size skeletons, witches, snakes, goblins, mummies and tombstones set up out front, the Sun-Star reported. There were also two giant 12-foot skeletons hanging out on the roof.

On May 13, the Andersons’ suffered the loss of many of their Halloween decorations when a fire destroyed a storage unit on their property, according to the GoFundMe page created by Anne Stevens.

“The 2026 Halloween will not be the same without help of friends, strangers and the community,” the GoFundMe says. “The worst part is that the insurance was scheduled to take effect just days later, leaving them completely uninsured for this horrific loss.”

As of Tuesday morning, $1,700 had raised of a $15,000 goal.

Ken Anderson told the Sun-Star in 2022 that it takes about two months to set up the outside decorations.
