Temperatures will remain cool this week, with highs in the high 70s and low 80s, but summer is just around the corner and that means scorching heat is coming

The National Weather Service expects highs to start hitting the mid-90s by next Monday.

Weather.com’s 10-day forecast says Merced will see a stretch of nine consecutive days of 90-degree high temperatures starting next week.

That’s perfect timing for Merced County cooling zones to open June 1. Cooling zones provide air-conditioned indoor spaces, free bottled water, and places to sit to help residents escape the heat. The cooling zones typically remain active until Oct. 31. Days and hours vary by location.
