Wildfire spreads quickly in Catheys Valley, northeast of Merced
A wildfire in Mariposa County, located northeast of Merced, has quickly grown to 1,408 acres, according to Cal Fire.
The wildfire, which has been named the Waltz Fire, was discovered at about 12:50 p.m. Friday. The original location was South Waltz Road in Catheys Valley, Cal Fire said.
Cal Fire crews from the Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit have responded to the blaze.
Eight engines, four water tenders, two helicopters, three bulldozers and two hand crews are working to control the fire. A total of 75 personell is involved.
“Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow,” Cal Fire said.
