Update: Wildfire near San Luis Reservoir up to 500 acres. Cal Fire responding

Cal Fire is trying to contain a wildfire that broke out near San Luis Reservoir on the border of Merced and Santa Clara counties on Wednesday morning.

The blaze, at Highway 152 and Dinosaur Point Road in Santa Nella, grew to about 500 acres at 11:34 a.m., according to the Cal Fire incident website. It is currently at zero containment.

The Point Fire, as Cal Fire is calling it, was first reported as a 20-acre vegetation fire at 9:52 a.m. Cal Fire’s Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit is responding to the wildfire.

Cal Fire said 15 engines, two water tankers, three helicopters and three hand crews are on scene of the blaze.

A total of 150 personnel are part of the response.
