A vegetation fire in Merced County has grown to 35 acres and closed a roadway, officials said Friday afternoon.

Cal Fire is reporting that the wildfire, dubbed the Turlock Fire and located northeast of Ballico, started at about 5:45 a.m., and had grown to 35 acres by 2:55 p.m.

Oakdale Road is closed between Turlock Road and Looney Road due to the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol in Merced.

Cal Fire crews from the Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit have responded to the blaze. Cal Fire said the wildfire is 0% contained.

CHP Merced is advising drivers to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
