Concert to honor Merced County peace officers
The Merced County Sheriff’s Department and the Merced Theatre are teaming this week for a fundraiser.
The Merced County Peace Officers Memorial Tribute concert featuring contemporary Christian musician Jeremy Camp will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St.
Sgt. Delray Shelton said any proceeds raised through the concert will benefit events or ceremonies held to honor peace officers.
“The overall event is important to memorialize and celebrate the lives and service of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the line of duty,” Shelton said in an email. “In addition, we want to ensure community and law enforcement collaboration in hopes of building relationships so not another life is lost in the line of duty.”
Every spring, law enforcement from around the county come together to honor officers who have lost their lives while on the job. The ceremony is typically held around the memorial erected outside the Merced County Administration Building on M Street.
Shelton said the Merced County Peace Officers Memorial Fund is not guaranteed any money at the concert, and will benefit depending on the number of tickets sold.
Camp is a contemporary Christian musician and songwriter from Lafayette, Ind. His original music is a mixture of ballads and songs with a rock influence. He’s won Christian music awards and has been nominated for three American Music Awards and a Grammy Award.
