Merced College's College for Kids accepting registration for classes this summer

Merced College said its Community Services program has been raising money to provide scholarships for local students to attend College for Kids this summer.

The Educational Employees Credit Union has agreed to match each dollar raised. The college also said that the Community Foundation of Merced will donate $5,000 toward those scholarships. With the match from EECU, the college expects to provide several hundred local kids with scholarships, according to a news release.

Merced College said it has has one of the few remaining College for Kids programs among the state’s community colleges. Here’s a link to the program’s schedule of classes:


Registration is now available. The first session begins June 20. Students need to be going into the fourth grade through eighth grade to register for College for Kids. Ages for aquatics, theatre, Children’s choir and sports camps vary.

College for Kids classes are $60 a class. The Summer Youth Theatre Program is $250 for the four-week programs and for Children’s Choir is $110.

Registration covers all class/camp enrollment fees and supplies. It does not cover the cost of snacks, meals or other related expenses. Confirmations will not be sent unless you register online or send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Registration forms can be downloaded from our website or you can come to the office located in downtown Merced at the Business Resource Center, 630 West 19th Street, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.Summer hours begin in June. Campus will be closed at 11 a.m. on Fridays and College For Kids will take place on the main campus. Registration before June 20 will take place downtown.

Beginning June 20th and during College For Kids, officials will be located in the Merced College Theatre Lobby.
