Merced HS Drama Club awards scholarship, slates new play May 27-28

The Merced High School Drama Club said it will present the first-ever MHS Drama Club scholarship of $100 to Jeremy Gleeson at the Scholarship Dinner.

“We are very proud to be able to do that,” said Julie Ransom, club director. “Next year we have many seniors, and want to raise the funds to honor each of them and their work in the program with scholarships.”

The club is also producing “Bad Audition by Bad Actors,” written by a new playwright, Ian McWethy. The play will be staged at 7 p.m., May 27-28 in the MHS Drama Room. Tickets are $5 at the door. The play will be performed by the Merced High School Theatre Arts Class.

The action begins with the Casting Director assuring his producer that the local production of “Romeo and Juliet” will be cast by the end of the day. Come see the antics as the Casting Director wades through a sea of "Bad Auditions by Bad Actors" and is hard-pressed to find suitable actors to fill the lead roles.

The club also said it opened up a second class for next year and is planning to go to Los Angeles in February for a competition.
