Friday night shooting in South Merced was gang related, police say

A shooting that Merced police say is gang related left a man with multiple gunshot wounds in South Merced Friday night.

Police responded to calls about a shooting in the area of 10th and M streets around 6:45 p.m. Friday. They found the victim in the 600 block of W. 10th St. Officers believe the shooting occurred in the alleyway just north of where the victim was found. He was flown to a Modesto hospital for treatment. The victim's identity is being withheld by police until his family has been notified about his injuries.

Tips may also be sent by anonymous text message to TIP411 (847411) and including the word "ComVIP" as the keyword in the message.
