Eight Sureno gang members, six of them minors, were arrested after Merced police officers found loaded guns during a search of a South Merced apartment.
Officer Brian Rinder was driving to work when he saw a teenager driving a vehicle with three occupants. Rinder recognized the boy as possibly having an arrest warrant for weapons violations. He called officers with the Merced Police Gang Violence Suppression Unit, who confirmed the warrant and followed the car to an apartment in the 400 block of W. 12th St. Officers found a firearm inside the vehicle and a loaded gun in the backyard of the apartment, police said.
The 17-year-old juvenile with the warrant was arrested for additional charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, having a firearm in a vehicle and participation in a criminal street gang. Also arrested were Jose Ibarra, 23, of Merced, and Luis Ibarra, 20, of Merced, and five minors.
