Merced benefit concert held, proceeds unclear

It remains unclear how much, if any, the Merced County Peace Officers Memorial Fund benefited from a concert Thursday at Merced Theatre.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Department and the Merced Theatre teamed for a fundraiser, called the Merced County Peace Officers Memorial Tribute concert.

The show included a performance by Christian musician Jeremy Camp, who also took part in a meet-and-greet beforehand.

Camp is a contemporary Christian musician and songwriter from Lafayette, Ind. He’s won Christian music awards and has been nominated for three American Music Awards and a Grammy Award.

Sgt. Delray Shelton said the memorial fund is not guaranteed any money from the concert, and will benefit depending on the number of tickets sold. He said the details were still unclear Friday.

The fund is used to help pay for the ceremonies and events related to honoring officers from around Merced County who have been killed while on the job.

Every spring, for example, law enforcement personnel come together to honor those officers. The ceremony is typically held around the memorial erected outside the Merced County Administration Building on M Street.

“The overall event is important to memorialize and celebrate the lives and service of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the line of duty,” Shelton said in an email.
