Jennifer Alfonso, the woman whose murder was made public on Facebook, is laid to rest

About 100 family and friends gathered in Doral Tuesday to pay their final respects to Jennifer Alfonso, the 26-year-old South Miami woman whose dead body was posted on Facebook last week.

A confession attributed to her husband Derek Medina and posted on the same Facebook page, stated that she was killed following an argument. Medina, 31, remains jailed pending his arraignment on charges of first-degree murder.

At the noon-time burial of her daughter at Our lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, Alfonso’s mother stood somberly before the white coffin, tears streaming down her face, as she hugged her other three children and her husband Rohan Knox. The family has declined to discuss the tragedy.

Mourners wore white clothes as requested by Alfonso herself. According to one of her sisters, Alfonso had specified that in the event of her death, she wanted be laid in her casket all in white, so as to honor the archangel Gabriel.

Her request was honored.

Sobs filled the air as mourners placed sunflowers, orange carnations and white roses on top of the coffin. Many stopped to console Alfonso’s immediate family.

Co-workers who attended her wake Monday night remembered her as someone "sweet, responsible and a good employee," said a manager at a Dennys restaurant where Alfonso work who declined to give his name. "We knew that she maintained a difficult relationship with her ​​husband. She was physically and verbally abused."
