Stephan Gray Memorial Golf Tournament seeks Merced sponsors

An annual golf tournament benefiting the families of fallen peace officers is looking for sponsors from around the Merced community.

The 10th annual Stephan Gray Memorial Fund/Merced Police Officers Association Golf Tournament tees off Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Rancho Del Rey Golf Club in Atwater.

Joe Deliman, president of the Merced Police Officers Association, said the tournament benefits several good causes for law enforcement in Merced.

Named for Officer Stephan Gray, a Merced officer killed in the line of duty in 2004, the tournament carries a special place in the hearts and minds of Merced County’s law enforcement community.

“This (tournament) helps keeps Stephan’s memory alive. It’s a good way for all of to be involved in the whole community and, perhaps most importantly, it allows his family to help sponsor those who want to be in law enforcement through the academy,” Deliman said in an interview Monday.

Half the proceeds will benefit the Stephan Gray Memorial Fund and the Merced Police Officers Association.

The group is looking for area residents and businesses to sponsor the events. The cost for sponsorship is $100 per tee and $250 per flag.

The entry fee for the tournament is $100 per person.
