Road closure planned for northbound Highway 99
The California Department of Transportation will close northbound Highway 99 at Highway 140, just north of Childs Avenue, for bridge work.
The closure will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and continue until 5 p.m. Friday.
According to Caltrans, motorists should expect 10-minute delays. A signed detour is in place, and alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.
Although construction is scheduled to begin as listed, it is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and construction-related issues.
The construction work is part of the $32.4 million Highway 99 East Merced Overhead Project, which began on June 11, 2012. The project will replace the bridge decks on the 15th Street undercrossing and the east Merced overhead structures.
The project will also bring the bridge widths and bridge rails to current standards, install a concrete median barrier, provide standard shoulder widths and upgrade the existing guard rails and bridge approach rails.
