Cannella honors Merced volunteers
Several dozen volunteers gathered at the Merced County Courthouse Museum to accept an award from state Sen. Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, on Wednesday.
“You make Merced County better,” he said, while standing in the historic courtroom in the museum.
More than 100 volunteers in the past year gave more than 4,000 hours of their time volunteering at the museum, according to Executive Director Sarah Lim.
She said their time benefits the museum whether they were able to give as few as three or as many as 300 hours. “Our volunteers have made a difference in our community, especially in our museum,” Lim said.
Admission to the museum is free, and the doors are open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
The current exhibit highlights the 100-year anniversary of the city of Gustine and El Nido School. Next month, the museum will look back at UC Merced’s first 10 years.
