Man killed by train identified as Merced resident
A man struck and killed by a train last week was identified Tuesday as a 42-year-old Merced man.
Noel Anthony Silva stepped off a platform around 7 a.m. Friday directly into the path off an on-coming train at the Merced Amtrak station on West 24th Street, authorities said.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man’s identity Tuesday.
Merced police declined to comment on a motive, but said it appeared the man deliberately stepped in front of the fast-moving train. He died at the scene.
