Merced motorcyclist injured in crash

A 38-year-old Merced man suffered major injuries Monday when his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a pickup truck with an attached trailer, the California Highway Patrol reported.

William A. Fragie was riding a 1999 Suzuki Intruder south on Highway 59 about 5:15 p.m., Officer Moises Onsurez said.

He then collided with a 2000 GMC Sierra driven by a 38-year-old Obed Avila of Merced. Avila and a passenger in the truck, Jason Stone, 39, of Atwater, were not injured, Onsurez said.

The collision occurred just north of Breeze Avenue, north of Merced, the CHP said.

Traffic was shut down on the road for several minutes when a medical helicopter landed to take Fragie to a regional hospital. An update on his condition was not available Tuesday.

CHP investigators were still looking into exactly how the crash occurred and its cause, Onsurez said.
