Art Hop

The quarterly Merced Art Hop is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at more than 20 downtown businesses. The event offers several interactive art pieces, and this year will unveil a permanent home on Canal Street, between Main and 18th streets. For more on the free event, go to mercedarthop.org.

‘La Loteria’

Mariposa Art Company plans “La Loteria,” a group art exhibition featuring 42 different Central Valley artists at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the gallery at 1637 M St. in Merced. Artists have created original works based on cards from Loteria, a popular game played throughout Mexico. The event is for all ages and is free. For more, visit mariposaartcompany.com.

LB concert series

“Urban bluegrass” is on the docket when Morgan Canyon Band comes to Los Banos. The banjo, mandolin, guitar and electric bass make up the sound that combines the energy and carefree spirit of early rock with the vocal harmonies and acoustics of bluegrass at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Ted Falasco Arts Center, 1105 Fifth St. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets: $20 general, $5 for students with ID. George Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead

The “Night of the Living Dead” live adaptation of the classic horror film features a twist when performed by Playhouse Merced at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and Oct. 24; and 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the playhouse, 452 W. Rocky Horror Picture Show

Merced Theatre is set to screen the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” a 1975 musical comedy horror film, at 10 pm. Oct. 30 at the 301 W. Main St. theater. Tickets are $12 at mercedtheatre.org or by calling 209-381-0500.

‘Selfish Giant’

Building Young Leaders, an education enrichment center in Merced, plans a performance with a cast of about 100 children, including actors, dancers and a chorus, of “The Selfish Giant,” a musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale. A free school performance is scheduled at 9 a.m. Nov. 6, at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $12. For more information, call the Merced Theatre box office at 209-381-0100, ext. 102.

Second Saturdays

Second Saturdays, a cooperative effort between the Merced County Arts Council and the county Office of Education, starts in October. It continues in November, and then January through May at the council’s Black Box Theatre, 645 W. Main St. The program is open to children ages 3 to 8. Admission is $3 per child, with no charge for adults. The next show is Jan. 9, when Gail Dreifus of El Portal and the Recycled String Band will perform music about ecology and nature.
