Pedestrian killed in Winton collision
A 55-year-old man was killed Friday on Winton Way when he was struck by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim, a Winton man whose name was not released, died en route to Mercy Medical Center in Merced, Officer Moises Onsurez told the Sun-Star.
Investigators said that around 6:40 p.m. the man was crossing east on Winton Way, near the Doris Avenue intersection. He was not in a crosswalk, the CHP said.
He was struck by a Silver Saturn LS2, driven by 63-year-old Francisco Rodriguez, who was headed north on Winton Way at an undetermined speed, according to Onsurez.
No other injuries were reported.
